Junior Eyecare
Gently caring for young eyes by making it fun, informative but always thorough . . .
A childs vision is constantly developing during their formative years. Our junior Eye Examinations are not just about seeing if glasses may be required, but far more about checking their whole visual system is functioning as expected. We strongly recommend children have their first eye examination just before starting primary school.
Gentle Eye Examinations
Our junior eye examinations are both gentle and thorough. Our Optometrists will explain each step of the process and ensure your child feels at ease throughout the appointment.
You'll want to know their eyes are working together normally and understand any prescription requirements they may have.
We offer a lot more than just eye examinations for your child
Designed for Young Faces
Our junior frames are designed specifically to fit young facial features. This ensures they are comfortable and allow for a little growing room.
Our qualified Dispensing Opticians carefully guide you and your child through the frame selection process, ensuring the frame is the correct size and bridge fitting.
NHS funding
Eye Examination fees for children under 16 and young adults aged 16,17 or 18 and still in full time education, are funded by the NHS. (A £10 supplement may apply if retinal photography is undertaken). The NHS also provide assistance towards the basic costs of glasses, if a prescription is required.
First Time Contact Lenses
Our first-time contact trials are gentle and include everything required to get them started. We first start with a suitability assessment to ensure younger wearers are suitable and able to wear lenses.
We generally recommend daily disposable lenses as they require no cleaning and are ideal for activities like sport.
Sun Protection
Our junior frames can also be made up as sunglasses.
Lenses include 100% protection from harmful UV and a choice of tint colours and coatings. With our free second pair of lenses for children, it's an ideal opportunity to ensure your child's eyes are fully protected from bright sunlight and UV.
EyeDream OrthoK
Ever dreamt of having clear vision without the need to wear lenses or glasses during the day? Now you can with our advanced EyeDream OrthoK vision therapy. By mapping the surface of your eye using Corneal Topography, a unique Orthokeratology contact lens is manufactured just for you. You only have to wear the lenses while sleeping, during which time the power of your cornea is gently altered. Once you remove them in the morning your vision is effectively normal during the day. EyeDream Vision Therapy is available for adults and children, but only if you're short sighted.
Classic Rayban - Just Smaller
All the retro style and quality of a genuine Ray Ban frame but specifically designed for smaller faces.
If you're looking for an iconic frame style that will cope with all the demands they put on glasses then look no further.
Clarity In The Pool
Our extensive range of prescription swimming goggles are available in ready made or full prescription and come in a wide variety of sizes and colours. Ideal when you have trouble keeping them out of the water.
Protection On The Pitch
It's gradually becoming mandatory with junior sports like football and rugby for children who normally wear glasses to instead wear sports protective eyewear. We offer a number of options including RFU accredited sports eyewear, also suitable for football, and daily contact lenses for slightly older children.
Signs of a Squint
Our junior Eye Examinations will check for this fairly common condition in young children, which if left unchecked can lead to permanent poor vision.
Colour Perception
Colour vision defects are present at birth with younger children generally unaware they see colours differently. These defects remain with us for life, so it's important to identify them early.
